Amazon Unveils $35 Billion India Investment Drive to Boost AI and Jobs by 2030

E-commerce giant Amazon has announced a sweeping investment of over $35 billion in India by 2030, targeting a major expansion across all business verticals. The move will accelerate AI-driven digitization, boost export growth, and generate new jobs in the country.
This latest funding builds on Amazon’s $40 billion investment in India to date, which has digitized more than 12 million small businesses and enabled $20 billion in cumulative exports.
Announced at the Amazon Smbhav Summit in New Delhi, the $35 billion investment is set to accelerate Amazon’s expansion in India and underscores its commitment to AI-driven digitization, export growth, and job creation.
The Economic Impact Report by Keystone Strategy highlighted that Amazon’s cumulative investments have established it as India’s largest foreign investor, the leading enabler of ecommerce exports, and one of the nation’s top job creators.
Amazon’s large-scale investments in India include building fulfilment centers, expanding transportation and logistics networks, developing data centers, and enhancing digital payments infrastructure.
Amazon's economic impact in India
According to the Keystone report, Amazon has achieved the following milestones in India:
Digitized over 12 million small businesses
Enabled $20 billion in cumulative ecommerce exports
Helped create about 2.8 million jobs of different types in India in 2024. These jobs include work in technology, daily operations, delivery, and customer support, and offer good pay, health benefits, and training.
“We are humbled to have been a part of India’s digital transformation journey over the past 15 years, with Amazon’s growth in India perfectly aligned with the vision of an Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat,” says Amit Agarwal, Senior VP Emerging Markets, Amazon. “We have invested at scale in growing the physical and digital infrastructure for small businesses in India, creating millions of jobs, and taking Made-in-India global.”
Amazon’s impact in India goes beyond its own employees, helping create jobs in packaging, delivery, and technology, and helping thousands of small businesses and business owners grow on its online marketplace.
In 2030, the company will help support 3.8 million jobs of different kinds. These jobs will come from Amazon's business growth and its bigger storage and delivery network, which also helps other industries like packaging, making products, and transport services.
Strategic investments through 2030
Reiterating Amazon’s investment in India, Amit adds, “Looking ahead, we're excited to continue being a catalyst for India’s growth, as we democratize access to AI for millions of Indians and quadruple cumulative ecommerce exports enabled to $80 billion by 2030. In 2030, Amazon businesses will support 3.8 million direct, indirect, induced and seasonal jobs.”
With the extra $35 billion planned by 2030, Amazon wants to speed up digital change, make its systems stronger, and help new ideas grow across the country. These investments match India's main goals and will focus on growing AI technology, improving delivery systems, helping small businesses, and creating jobs.
Making AI accessible to all
Bringing the benefits of AI to students, business owners, and customers across India: Amazon's strong promise to AI will change how people use technology in India to support the government's goal of "AI for All." By 2030, Amazon plans to:
Bring the benefits of AI to 15 million small businesses, with sellers on Amazon.in already using AI tools like Seller Assistant, Next Gen Selling, and others.
Make shopping better for hundreds of millions of people with new ideas like Lens AI for finding products by pictures, talking to Rufus for shopping help, and using many languages to help people who have trouble reading.
Help 4 million students in government schools learn about AI and explore careers by offering AI lessons, technology career tours, hands-on AI activities, and teacher training programs. This project supports India's National Education Policy 2020 by making AI education available to more people through Amazon's technology and work with nonprofits.
